Rt Rev KENNETH LESLIE. OBE. BA; Th.Schol.
6TH BISHOP OF BATHURST
|
| PATRON
OF CLAN LESLIE SOCIETY OF AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND |
|
The Right Reverend Kenneth Leslie was born at Hitchin, England in 1911. His early childhood memories are a mixture of gardens and cowslips, village greens, steam trains, air-raid warnings and a bitter World War. In 1922 the Leslie family migrated to Australia. The move opened the world to young Ken, and in particular, the Australian bush and outback, which became his playground throughout his childhood and adult years. As a young priest he chose an adventure away from the limelight, away from civilisation, away from his first and only love. For ten years the deserts of the Northern Territory tested Ken's strength and endurance, but he never faltered. On many occasions, the environment tried to break his spirit; the western elements, the famous Kokoda Trail of Papua New Guinea, the highland country of Mount Timbertop and Mount Buller, the western New South Wales plains of his beloved Diocese of Bathurst. His determination, perseverance and faith were again fully tested in 1971 when he walked 130 miles from Dubbo to Bathurst to raise funds to complete All Saint's Cathedral. People from all denominations responded and the Cathedral was built. Ken Leslie
is a humble man, his life completely devoted to benefit others, his
sole objective, that people of all denominations should take opportunities
to "Give three cheers for God". |
